Copper-Based Alloys
These filler metals are typically used in industrial applications for joining copper and copper-based alloys. They also work fine on silver and silver-based alloys, however, because they tend to have dull-grey colors when brazed, their suitability for jewelery soldering is limited. Copper-Phosphorous alloys are popular in powdered form for chain packing, and offer low-cost joining solutions for base metal assemblies that may be subsequently plated, or where color is not an issue. Copper-Phosphorous alloys are not suitable for joining iron or nickel containing alloys as they can cause brittleness in the joint area.

Copper-Phosphorous Alloys
Copper-based alloys are good, low-cost, general purpose brazing alloys that can be used on most brazeable metals. Their drawback is that they typically have higher melting points than silver-based alloys, or copper-phosphorous based alloys which can make them more difficult to work with and unsuited for joining some lower-melting alloys.
